Pronounced “fung shway,” this ancient Chinese system of balancing our physical environment is intended to promote harmony and a sense of well-being. Feng means “wind” and shui means “water.” In Chinese culture wind and water are associated with good health, thus good feng shui came to mean good fortune.
From your home’s exterior surroundings to its furnishings and decor, feng shui practitioners believe that everything has a certain “chi,” or energy and how we arrange objects can affect all aspects of our lives.
Feng shui divides the world into five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Each element invokes a different mood, creating a customized space that's beneficial for your personality and goals.
Wood - Harnesses the power of creativity and expansion while representing traits such as growth, birth, strength, flexibility and intuition.
Fire - Increase enthusiasm and leadership skills by maximizing the fire element.
Earth - Affects physical strength and order while generating an overall feeling of grounding, balance and stability.
Metal - Affects mental clarity and logic.
Water's domain encompasses spirituality and the emotions.
